New Vocal Microphone

I picked up my new mic from the post office this morning and had a hard time thinking about anything else all day. The moment I got home I plugged my new Shure SM7B into my M-Audio Firewire Solo, barely stopping to adjust the levels for guitar and mic and started recording.

Being absolutely shagged after a long day I only managed an hour of messing about before deciding how definitely, positively, incredibly right I was in buying the SM7B. It's no surprise how amazing the vocal tracks sound considering the 7B is an industry standard newscasters mic but I didn't expect it so sound so good without any mastering at all.

So, for the moment, I have everything I need to record in terms of electronic hardware. Now, all I really need is foam sheeting to deaden my spare room a bit.

Camera Camera, Promo Photo Success

Promo Photo!

In an effort to shoot a decent promo photo for an upcoming BC Unplugged gig I stripped the balcony of its Christmas lights and wrapped them all about my guitar.

Above is the result of an hour of being tangled in lights and my camera's self timer.

I'll post my interview with Shashwati Kala from Hong Kong's BC Magazine whenever it's out.

The gig, by the way, will be at The Wanch on Jaffe Road in Wan Chai on March 23rd. No idea who else is playing yet.

Details to come!

Brendan Ontario is Kawaii Kestral

First post on my new blog, which I'll be updating with upcoming gigs for myself and other Hong Kong performers.

In Hong Kong I play under the name Brendan Ontario but it's not a name I feel works well back home in Canada. I've spent some time and gathered some opinions and have finally settled on the name, Kawaii Kestral. To mark the new name I decided to create this blog, and will eventually get around to changing/updating my myspace account: www.myspace.com/talkingwithfriends
also, will be posting a few songs here:

Later this year, I'll be releasing some old and new songs for download on my website, which hopefully should be running by the Summer. Until then, I'll use this blog as my base of operations.
